If a word in a dictionary is misspelled, how would you know?

so the person who wrote it could be making it up and talking crap but we all just belive thats how it should be spelled! well who says they are spelling it right? If a word in a dictionary is misspelled, how would you know?
In English whoever writes the dictionary sets the spelling, therefore they cannot technically be wrong... As a matter of fact, dictionaries from the 1700 and 1800's did not all spell words in the same way (ex. geol vs jail)...

In other languages, such as French and Italian, there is actually a central institution that decides which words are accepted into the language, how they are spelled and what their usage is. There is no such institution for the English language. If a word in a dictionary is misspelled, how would you know?
Because there's been a consensus on spelling standard. If a word in a dictionary is misspelled, how would you know?
I think you're over-analyzing things. Just relax!
Dictionaries, more than most books, are repeatedly proofread before they go to print. The likelihood of this happening is extremely minuscule and not something you should be worrying your pretty little head about.
