What is the proper spelling of thanks/thanx in this situation?

"Thanks" is in the dictionary, and "thanx" isn't, but I think when a hip teenager says "Thanx, man!" in my story, it's the correct way to spell it.... OPINIONS??What is the proper spelling of thanks/thanx in this situation?
Thanx isn't a word according to our English dictionary. So it wouldn't make sense for it to be the 'correct' way to spell it when it shouldn't exist at all in our vocabulary.

On a further note, since the internet craze a few decades ago, it has grown acustom for us (teenagers mostly) to shorten the dialog in order to IM, text, chat, email, and blog faster. It's a more efficient way of doing things, no?

Take a look at these text messaging shorthands (acronyms): http://www.netlingo.com/emailsh.cfm

Saddens me to think this is what our English language has "evolved" *cry* into. What happened to elloquence and grammar structure? Unfortunately it's affecting our classrooms and education overall. Young students use text shorthand in writing everyday - and what's worse - some don't know any better!

I cringe at "thanx." Hip teenagers would impress more if they used "thanks" instead. Trust me.
If you really want to get technical about it the only way I've ever seen Thanks shorten to was thnx, but that is my opinion, which is what you asked for. BTW word will still consider it a misspelling too. What is the proper spelling of thanks/thanx in this situation?
thanks is the correct way

thanx is slang
it can also be thx...it still slang so there's really no correct form of slang...it variesWhat is the proper spelling of thanks/thanx in this situation?
Yeah it should be thanks. Thanx is just used in text messages as far as I know.
I disagree. If "thanx" and "thanks" were pronounced differently, you might have a case, however, since they are not, you should stick with the original spelling.
Use the "k". Otherwise you'll be saying. . . "Timmy, tell the man thanks with an X".

You'll need to think of a better way to express his coolness in the story.
