Hieroglyphs are a writing system used by the Ancient Egyptians, that contained a combination of logographic (usually a symbol with a phonetic value), alphabetic elements ( in relation to the alphabet), and ideographic (in relation to the gods) elements.

The word hieroglyph comes from the language of Greek ?ερογλυφικ? (?ieroglyfiká), the adjective hieroglyphic, as well as related words such as ?ερoγλυφο? (?ieroglyphos), one who writes hieroglyphs,

from ?ερ?? (hierós meaning "sacred") and γλ?φειν (glyfein meaning "to carve" or "to write"). Hieroglyphs themselves, were called τ? ?ερογλυφικ? (γρ?μματα) / tà ?ieroglyfiká (grámmata), that is

"graven characters" on monuments (such as stelae, temples and tombs). In the end, by an overlap in meanings, the word hieroglyph came to be used for the hieroglyphic characters themselves.
hieroglyphs come from the greek:

hiero:sacred/religious

glyphs:script

ancient egyptians used to write in this way, for them their writing is sacred.I took classes of it for like a year, it is difficult. In ancient egyptian, the way they called their hieroglyphs means words of god(or something alike, i don't remember how it is said i think it is Jedu Medu, but i'm not sure it has been a while)
Hieroglyphics

The written Egyptian language, hieroglyphics, is made up of three types of symbols. Alphabetic signs correspond to a letter or sound produced by that sign. Syllabic symbols stand for sounds produced by a group of letters, a syllable. Determinative signs relate to a specific object or idea, such as man, woman, and water. Hieroglyphics can be read from left to right, right to left, or top to bottom. The direction depends on the direction the symbols are facing.
Egyption writing, all the little pictures of eyes and birds and stuff.
Hieroglyphics are ancient Egyptian pictogram's they used as writing. They are on tomb and pyramid walls. There are other hieroglyphs in Aztec and Mayan cultures as well. Look up ancient writings or something on that line and you will get more info. And, in the future, if you don't know how to spell something, try putting the word as you know it into a word processing program and run spell check on it. The correct spelling should be there. Hope this helps!
heiroglyphics are the ancient egyption form of writing
Hieroglyphics - a type of writing used in ancient Egypt. Similar pictographic styles of Crete, Asia Minor, and Central America and Mexico are also called hieroglyphics. Interpretation of Egyptian hieroglyphics, begun by Jean- Francois Champollion, is virtually complete, the other hieroglyphics are only very imperfectly understood. The distinguishing feature of hieroglyphics is that they are conventionalized pictures used chiefly to represent meanings that seem arbitrary and are seldom obvious.
