How am I supposed to look up how to spell a word in the dictionary, if I don't know how to spell it?

Seriously, if you ask a teacher how to spell something. They tell you to look in the dictionary. Umm, how the hell am I supposed to do that if I don't know how to spell it? Like if someone doesn't know how to spell cat, and they look up kat?How am I supposed to look up how to spell a word in the dictionary, if I don't know how to spell it?
use phonetics, you try to spell the wrote by how it sounds. For example I don't know how to spell establishment so I sound "es?" "ta, te, ti?" "ta" bleish? no it's "blish" and so on. That is why I like spell check. I am a terrible speller and spell check corrects my errors.How am I supposed to look up how to spell a word in the dictionary, if I don't know how to spell it?
