Why are so many E-mails full of grammar and spelling mistakes when most hard copies are not?

I have noticed that in E-mails many people do not double check what they have written, how they have structured it or even if there are any 'dictionary' lines under any words.

Why do you think this is?Why are so many E-mails full of grammar and spelling mistakes when most hard copies are not?
It's an interesting question. Below is my take on it but I can accept that there may be more to it than this.

Probably people take little care over an email because they never expect it to exist longer than the time it takes for the recipient to read it.

If someone commits something to paper, there is a feeling that it may last a longer time and be seen by more people, so more effort is made.
