What happens if theres a mistake in the dictionary?

If there is a spelling mistake in the dictionairy, does that mean that a new spelling would be adopted? or would it have to be reprinted? and who would notice? What happens if theres a mistake in the dictionary?
Nothing would happen. Errors of both substance and typography are common in book publishing and are never sufficient to reprint the book unless it leads to legal liability--such as defamation or invasion of privacy--or serious embarrassment--such as the discovery that a purportedly factual work is actually fiction (in which case a reprinting still would not occur; instead the book would be pulled from the shelves and returned to the publisher). Other than that, the book would certainly stand as is. That doesn't mean it will never be reprinted. All successful books go through many printings during which known errors are corrected, and that would certainly happen to any moderately successful dictionary. But an error would not be reason to cause a reprinting. It would happen in its natural course and thus the answer is that the error itself would cause nothing to happen at all.
It would be reprinted. Pedants would notice and write to the printers. What happens if theres a mistake in the dictionary?
Well I can assure you there will never be such a big typo as to spell "Dictionary" as "Dictionairy".

I reckon there was a mistake in a copy of the bible. It said "celebrate" not "celebate".
No; it just means that you tell the publisher/editor and it's corrected in the next printing. For existing copies of any book, lists of errors called "errata" are sometimes published and sent to people owning the books; these days, of course, they are often found online as well.

I think Mickey's right, but the copies with the error would probably eventually become collector's items and be worth quite a bit.
