If a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?

Seriously! We could be spelling words wrong and not even know it! Every word in this sentence could be spelled wrong, and I am completely unaware of it.If a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?
If the dictionary spells it wrong and we all spell it wrong then who is to know and what difference would it make?
If you have reason to doubt an entry, compare it with the entry in a other dictionary. No one dictionary has any language cornered. Be careful to check whether it is American or other ( e.g. British) usage. Differences there are not misspellings so much as customary spellings for the region in question.If a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?
Its in my head I might not like it but its there
Dictionaries are well researched and are therefore unlikely to give you a wrong spelling. In fact, they even offer alternative,but equally valid spellings where appropriate.
